Decisionmaking with MAS

April 28, 2009

Making a decision is hard.

As a few of you may know, I will be attending Illinois Wesleyan University to study Music next year. Recently I made a visit to the college.

On my visit to the college I met a variety of awesome and diverse students. While I was on campus visiting I was lucky enough to get to stay with a freshman (so sophomore when I start) music performance major named Stefan. He introduced me to a singer which is his favorite and quickly became a favorite of mine as well.

This is Leontyne Price performing Chi il bel sogno – La Rondine.  Moment 1:45 is amazing.

The reason I bring it up is because today is the day I have to send in the paperwork saying that I will be attending next year. There is no other feeling so scary. I am moving out of my parent’s house, moving into a college, and moving into the real world. There is a lot to be afraid of.

Though making this decision was hard, I am going to have a lot of help along the way and I cant wait.

Recently my quartet performed at the state level and received a superior rating, after performing at this competition we performed at the Open Bowl Banquet to raise money for an organization which will bring food and water to starving children in Africa.

This is our performance of Till The Stars Fall From the Sky, arranged by althouse.  I am the top voice in this group.  The group consists of Luke Brettman, James Wood, and Nick Gillock.

Thanks for hanging out,

MAS

Marrying a Prince for Dummies

April 21, 2009

SO as some of you know I am currently going through a Into the Woods phase! And I am also in psychology class. According to my teacher child abuse can lead to multiplicity, dissociation, and other terrible traumatic effects. HOWEVER if you are in a fairy tail then child abuse almost always leads to marrying a prince.

Take Cinderella for example. Her parents went through a divorce, her stepmom abuses her and forces her to do extreme manual labor. But instead of being traumatized, running away, or fighting back, she learns how to accept it and be polite. Then she marries a prince? I seriously don’t think the prince knows what kind of drama prone girl he has gotten himself into.

And don’t even get me started on Rapunzel. She got taken at birth by a woman who believes she can perform magic. And as if that was not enough she was not allowed to meet other people and she lived in a tower. Her hygiene had to have been terrible; what kind of shower is inside of a tower? AND she let her hair dangle out the window onto the ground. In any other family she would have grown up to be the socially awkward stereotypical weird girl. But again she marries a prince. How come awesome things like that don’t happen to me!?

If you want to marry a prince, lock yourself in a tower, grow out your hair, put on some glass high heels (which HAVE to hurt), and forget about the shower. Ill get on that right away.

The Good, The Bad, and The Busy

April 16, 2009

Lots has been going on recently, which is both good and bad! Good because it keeps my busy and active and bad because i end up slacking on my homework (not that it matters at this point :P ).

Funny Stuff

I cracked up when I started reading some of these hilarious quotes. You have probably seen a few of them on my FB or Twitter.

Recently discovered Nico Muhly.  He is a young musician who combines classical music with a modern style.  I really like his style.

Nico Muhly - Mothertongue- I. Archive - Abigail Fischer.

Listen for the 1 0′s at about 2:15 and watch how the voice and piano take over later in the song.  Love this.  If you like it check out his CD, mothertongue, he uses a very diverse range of instruments and resources.

My choir sang a bunch this week! We had about 4 performances this week, in addition to quartet rehearsals, state large group contest, and end of the year and wedding prep! I am learning the song Mama (the versions arranged by Il Divo) with my quartet.

I am pretty much in love with Carlos’ key change at about 1:23.  Oh yeah and SHH!  Don’t tell mommy!  We are going to sing at the concert without telling our moms we are singing this song!  Arent we sweet?

And i am sure you all know Michael Buble’s version of For Once in my Life which i will be singing at my Cousin, Pat’s, wedding this Saturday!

Let me know what you think of both of these songs/artists and if you get a chance go look at the Philosoraptor site,  you will crack up.
