The Seven Most Important Things to Bring to College

May 30, 2009

Summer is here which means a new school year is just around the corner.  For some of us that means a totally new school, new environment, and new accommodations.  In anticipation for this big change I have compiled a few necessary items for a successful transition into college life.

  1. Number one on the list is an alarm clock.  Though it may seem like a no-brainer, this will defiantly come in handy for those early mornings.
  2. Good drugs.  No, I don’t mean bring illegal substances to campus.  I am talking Nyquil, Aspirin, and some Afrin.  This is especially important for us music majors who need our bodies to stay in tip top condition!
  3. Bathrobe.  Though you may be comfortable flaunting your stuff for your entire floor to see, they may not be so at ease.  College is community style people!  Cover up!
  4. Flip-Flops.  I already told you about the great sale at Old Navy with the $1 flip-flops so you don’t have to worry about what you’ll wear into the shower!
  5. Quarters.  You are going to need hundreds of quarters throughout the year if you will be taking care of your own laundry.  Vending machines are also a plus.
  6. Duct Tape.  ‘nuff said.
  7. Most important, bring an Open Mind.  If you go into something with a positive attitude, you are sure to come out with positive feedback.

A couple extra things I personally want for college are a Laptop and Camera!  I ordered my laptop a couple days ago and I will be receiving it on Saturday the 30th!  Whoop Whoop!  It has a 1.3 megapixel camera that will have to do for making videos until I get the camera I have my eyes on.

Is it Job Hunting or Job Hunted?

May 21, 2009

As you know Summer has begun for me as of May 16th when I received my diploma. Typically in the summer I try hard to make some money before the upcoming school year; especially this upcoming one. Everyone told me that finding a job for the summer was going to be a strenuous and long search. Well everyone was wrong.

I work during the week at a camp that works with children from age 3 to age 16 called Camp Centre Stage. I work with the age group of 8 – 11. I LOVE WORKING AT CAMP! I myself was a camper for 9 years and have been a counselor for three. This part of my life lasts from 8a.m. – 1p.m. The camp does pay me, but not a huge amount so having an extra job is usually a good idea.

This summer, however, I am in a show! I am in Wedding Singer at Theatre in the Park. Though I am only chorus, I am having a great time being a part of the show. Rehearsals for this show are Saturdays and Sundays from 12 – 5. Daddy does not like that I don’t have a “Job job” however so I went out in search of a part-time job.

I applied to my top choice for work, Banana Republic, and one other store, Bath & Body Works. I met with both store’s managers on Wednesday to offer my application, and both store managers were super friendly and outgoing. Later that same day, I went home and when I walked in the door I heard my answering machine say, “Hey Aaron this is Heather from Bath & Body Works, I wanted to give you a call immediately and snatch you up before someone else did! I was wondering if you could come in tonight for orientation!” It’s great that I am being offered a job there, but at the same time I really want to know if I will be offered a job at Banana! Maybe I could do both? Be the three job, one show, no friends loser!?

Let’s lay this out:

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday

So I guess I need to evaluate whether I want to have a life or make bank this summer!  Help me out!  What would you do?

What High School WAS About

May 17, 2009

*** I updated my blog!  Now instead of having all posts listed on a huge long page,  I will only have my most recent post.  You can look through older posts based on what month they were posted on the sidebar!***

———————————————————————————————————————————-

Over the past week or so i have been BUSY BUSY BUSY leading up to the splederous event where i now have nothing to do at all. I graduated.

I want to ask:  What does/did High School mean to you?

Is it about the awkward smiles freshmen year when you dont know anyone?     Is it about the spirit weeks where you dressed up like a girl on more than one occassion?    Is it about the cafeteria food which everyone complained about but we all knew it wasnt that bad?     Is it about the giant beach balls that mysteriously appeared during the graduation ceremony?     or Is it about the thousands of ways to ask someone to prom without making their car look like a murder scene with red car paint?

No no no.  High School is about the friends you make.     It is about the people you meet along the way.     It is about the classes you took even though you didnt care.     It is about skipping on senior skip day.     It is about joining as many clubs as you can until you realise you will drown if you dont get a break.     It is about the people you will miss in college.

Sorry i havent posted in a while,  like i said… i have been busy!

Luckily for me however, in my business i had the pleasure to go and see the KC Chorale!  They were amazing.  I have a few friends in the chorale and it was great to see them!  They introduced me to a modern composer who i am really fond of,  Eric Whitacre.

Eric Whitacre – Leonardo Dreams of his Flying Machine

Love this one, and Water Night.
